RAMSBURY

LOCATION AND CONNECTIVITY

Ramsbury is a beautiful Wiltshire village set within the North Wessex Downs National Landscape, surrounded by rolling countryside, pretty lanes and wonderful walking country. It sits between Marlborough and Hungerford, making it ideal for those who want the charm and calm of village life while remaining well connected to nearby towns.

Marlborough is around seven miles away, offering a wider range of shops, restaurants, cafés, Waitrose, leisure facilities and The Parade Cinema. Hungerford is also within easy reach and provides rail services towards London Paddington, Reading and Newbury.

For commuters, nearby stations at Hungerford and Great Bedwyn offer direct services towards London Paddington in just over an hour, while Junction 14 of the M4 is approximately eight miles away, giving convenient access towards London, Reading, Swindon and Bristol. This makes Ramsbury particularly appealing for buyers who want a rural lifestyle without feeling cut off.

LIFESTYLE AND THINGS TO DO

Ramsbury offers a wonderful blend of countryside living, village charm and everyday convenience. Set within the protected North Wessex Downs landscape, the village is surrounded by glorious walking, riding and cycling routes, with the River Kennet, open farmland and chalk downland all adding to the beauty of the setting.

The village itself has a timeless feel, with pretty period homes, a traditional village square and a strong sense of history. The North Wessex Downs National Landscape describes Ramsbury as one of its picture perfect villages, with thatched roofs, cottage gardens, village pubs and lovely walking routes nearby.

Outdoor life is a huge part of Ramsbury’s appeal. Whether it is weekend walks, dog walks, cycling, riding, fishing or simply enjoying the surrounding countryside, this is a village that really lends itself to a slower, more connected way of living.

Ramsbury is also home to Ramsbury Brewery and Distillery nearby, which has become a real local destination with its shop, tours, events and festivals. Visit Wiltshire lists the brewery and distillery as open throughout 2026, with guided tours available.

The Bell at Ramsbury

SHOPPING AND DINING

For a village setting, Ramsbury has excellent amenities. There is a post office, convenience store, hairdresser, doctors’ surgery, sports facilities and two pubs, making day to day life easy and sociable.

At the heart of the village is The Bell at Ramsbury, a beautifully restored Georgian coaching inn offering a pub, restaurant, café and boutique rooms. Ramsbury Estate describes The Bell as a cornerstone of the local community, with farm to fork dining and a setting in the heart of the Kennet Valley.

The village also has The Crown and Anchor, adding another welcoming pub option locally. For a wider choice of shops, restaurants, cafés and services, Marlborough is close by and offers Waitrose, independent boutiques, eateries, leisure facilities and The Parade Cinema.

SCHOOLS AND EDUCATION

Ramsbury is a very popular choice for families, helped by its highly regarded village primary school. Ramsbury Primary School was inspected by Ofsted in February 2023 and retained its Outstanding status, with Outstanding grades across all areas inspected.

The school describes itself as being at the core of the community, providing education for children aged 4 to 11 in the village of Ramsbury, on the edge of the Marlborough Downs.

For secondary education, Ramsbury is in the wider Marlborough area, with St John’s Marlborough a popular option. There are also well regarded independent schools within driving distance, including Marlborough College, Pinewood and Dauntsey’s.

COMMUNITY AND LIVING ENVIRONMENT

Ramsbury has a particularly strong community spirit and a lovely sense of village identity. It is large enough to offer useful amenities and plenty going on, but still small enough to feel friendly, personal and connected.

The village has superb sports facilities, including tennis, bowls and sports clubs, along with the Memorial Hall, local groups, societies and community events. The parish website lists a busy calendar of village activities, from live music and horticultural shows to open gardens, village walks and seasonal events.

Ramsbury is the kind of village where people get involved. There are clubs, local events, community gatherings and plenty of opportunities to meet people, making it particularly appealing for families, downsizers and anyone looking for a proper village lifestyle.

WHY WE LOVE RAMSBURY

Ramsbury has such a special feel. It is elegant, historic and beautifully set, yet still practical for everyday life. The village square is full of charm, The Bell brings a wonderful sense of occasion to the heart of the village, and the surrounding countryside is simply stunning.

We love that Ramsbury offers the best of both worlds. You can enjoy peaceful walks, riding routes, village pubs and a strong local community, while still having Marlborough, Hungerford, rail links and the M4 within easy reach.

It is a village that feels rooted, welcoming and full of character. From its outstanding primary school and active clubs to its pretty streets, countryside views and 300 year old coaching inn, Ramsbury is a wonderful place to call home.
